portage weirdness
Hi,

Ever since my last update on Portage when the world file was moved( and
possibly other changes) I am getting a whole bunch of errors while doing
an emerge sync:

Failed cache update: dev-java/commons-validator-1.0.2 "Corruption
detected when reading key 'commons-validator-1.0.2'"
\
Failed cache update: dev-java/compaq-jdk-1.3.1 "Corruption detected when
reading key 'compaq-jdk-1.3.1'"
\
Failed cache update: dev-java/compaq-jre-1.3.1 "Corruption detected when
reading key 'compaq-jre-1.3.1'"

..etc

It seems to do this with every port ? Any suggestion on how to solve
this would be appreciated.

Info: Portage 2.0.51_pre24 (default-x86-2004.2, gcc-3.3.4,
glibc-2.3.3.20040420-r1, 2.6.8-gentoo-r3 i686)

You might want to sync and upgrade portage again. I'm using 2.0.51_rc1 and
not seeing these problems.

I tried your suggestion upgrading to 2.0.51_rc1 but I'm still getting
strange errors when I do an "emerge sync"..

Failed cache update: xfce-extra/xfwm4-themes-4.0.3 "Corruption detected
when reading key 'xfwm4-themes-4.0.3'"
...done!
..etc

which seems to do this for every port and doing an "emerge -uDp world"
gives me the following:

root@nelis/home/nelis/httphome>$ emerge -uDp world

These are the packages that I would merge, in order:

Calculating world dependencies -QA Notice: awk in global scope:
sys-devel/gcc-3.3.1-r1
QA Notice: awk in global scope: sys-devel/gcc-3.3.1-r1

... etc
alsa

...done!

Even though I get all these strange errors everything still seems
functional but nevertheless irritating. Anything else I can try ?

Nelis

It sounds like the rsync mirror you are using is *way* out of date. Have you
seen any updates at all recently? Can you try syncing against the default
mirror (if you are not already)?

After you "emerge sync" from a good mirror. Do "emerge metadata". It
should get rid of the QA notices. It worked for me.
