Wireless set up successfully, but....
I just got wireless working with my Netgear WG511T PCMCIA card and the
madwifi driver. Basically, I bought two of these cards and a matching
router because I didn't do thorough enough research before I
purchased. This card/router combo supports 108Mbps when used
together, but that isn't supported by madwifi. I have read that the
Prism chipset has real Linux support. I'm not sure exactly what that
means, but I would guess it means there is support right in the
kernel, and things probably generally work better with it compared to
madwifi.

Does anyone know if there is any 108Mbps Linux support? Can I use
ndiswrapper to get the 108Mbps feature with what I have?

Trying to run wavemon I get "fatal error: could not get range
information". Is that just the way it goes with madwifi?

If you were me, all things considered, would you return this stuff and
get Prism hardware?

A couple other questions....

I'm a little worried about security/privacy. Is there any way to
communicate with my network securely? WEP has a reputation for being
easily breakable (something like 72 hours) and I'm not sure what WPA
is or if it's supported in madwifi. Can I somehow use SSH to operate
securely?

Lastly, does anyone know what the madwifi-tools package consists of?

Someone on another list said he'd gotten Belkin hdwe and had no problems. I
don't know how one would check the chipset, as I have never seen anything
indicating what chipset is used. I've used Linksys PCMCA wireless w/Mdk 9
but nothing later (I've been running SuSE 9, lately and just haven't had an
opportunity to check).
