[OT] APM "CPU Idle Calls" (Please help!)
I'm getting a high pitched electrical noise from my new Dell Inspiron
1000 laptop that seems to correspond with CPU activity. It is an
electrical type of sound and doesn't come through the speakers at all.
I found these threads:

and everyone seems to agree that disabling the APM feature "CPU Idle
Calls" is the way to fix it. My problem is a little different than
their's in that my sound starts as soon as Grub loads, and their's
doesn't seem to start until APM loads in their kernel. They are also
all referring to other models of the Inspiron than mine. I'm guessing
this means APM and CPU Idle Calls is loading in my BIOS. I've looked
through my BIOS thoroughly and there are no options for APM or ACPI at
all. I have tried disabling the Speedstep, but that doesn't seem to
make any difference.

Do any of you creative thinkers see a way to force no CPU Idle Calls
in this situation?
