Amarok 1.1_beta2 refuses to start: Can't load libamarok_artsengine_plugin
Hi!

The subject pretty much explains it all: Having upgraded Amarok from
1.0.2 to 1.1_beta2, the application displays the following two dialogs
and gracefully quits:

KLibLoader could not load the plugin:
libamarok_artsengine_plugin
Error message:
/usr/kde/3.3/lib/libamarokarts.so: undefined symbol:
_ZTv0_n28_N4Arts16SynthModule_stub11autoSuspendEv

And:

amaroK could not find any sound-engine plugins. It is likely that
amaroK is installed under the wrong prefix, please fix your
installation using:
$ cd /path/to/amarok/source-code/
$ su -c "make uninstall"
$ ./configure --prefix=`kde-config --prefix` && su -c "make install"
$ kbuildsycoca
$ amarok
[...]

Amarok is compiled with "+arts -cjk -debug -gstreamer +opengl -xine
+xmms" set.

Anyone else encounters this problem? My system is "~x86", so I asked for
trouble. But still I'd like to hear Amarok playing my superfunky
tunes! ;-)

I filed a bugreport on http://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=64241 -
more information can be found there.

Regards,
Jens

A couple of tips/tricks I have found about Amarok (which is my
favorite Linux mp3 player by the way). First, use the xine or
gstreamer engines instead of arts. I run KDE and love it, but, at
least on my hardware, it runs smoother with xine. Even if you still
want to use arts, try emergeing it with +gstreamer and/or +xine. That
usually fixes some of the problems (I know that isn't a good technical
answer, but it does get it to work). Secondly, do you have an Nvidia
video card? Are you using the Nvidia drivers (the ones from Nvidia)?
If you are, or even if your not, try emerging it with "-opengl", this
usually fixes the startup. If you really want opengl support, there
is a fix for it, but I can't seem to find the link for it. If I find
it, I will send it to you.

So to summerize, try emergeing it with USE="gstreamer xine -opengl"
and see if it works.

Thanks for your hints, actually this makes my favourite mp3 application
work again!

Yes, I'm using an ancient GeForce2 GTS/Pro with the binary driver
modules offered by NVidia. I don't care for any opengl support, it's
just music I want to listen to - so I removed the "opengl" useflag for
emerging this ebuild.

Wow, I like this new Amarok. It was a bit annoying that it rebuilded the
database from scratch, but hey - the cover manager is awesome!
