Why gcc downgrade from 3.4.2 to 3.4.1-r1?

It appears now that you need to manually unmask 3.4.2

just add =sys-devel/gcc-3.4.2-r1 to /etc/portage/package.unmask

And re-emrge gcc to get it back.

OR, you check /usr/portage/profiles/package.mask and see why the version
was masked. You'd want to do this for _every single package_ that you
still want to use after it's hard masked by a developer, since they
usually have a _very_ good reason doing so...
