groff; "C++ compiler cannot create executables"
On an ~x86 box, updating to sys-apps/groff-1.19.1 fails, saying the
C++ compiler cannot create executables, which is obviously wrong, and
presumably the result of some test the configure script runs. Has
anyone a comment on how I might work around the problem? Thank you.

have you changed your CFLAGS?
If there is one that not exist, you will get this message.

I haven't.

You might be changed some flags at /etc/make.conf and made a typo.
Look attentively or send your make.conf here.

It was nptl; removed it, and it built fine. Thanks to all!

Sorry for replying to my own post, but I was wrong. I remerged it on
my freshly installed 2004.2 Athlon box by mistake (don't ask; it's
been a long day). The problem is on my older, P4 box that started out
@ 1.4. Both are ~x86; more to follow.

Just to close the issue . . .

I'd installed sys-kernel/linux26-headers-2.6.8.1on the box in
question, and rebuilt glibc. Last night, I rebuilt gcc, and the
problem was solved (as well as nvidia problems I'd suddenly started
having).
