Anyone tried 2.6.17-gentoo-r1??
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----

Hi all,

I'm rebuilding a couple of boxen that I had as Solaris systems and
replacing with gentoo-sparc. On both systems (one is an Ultra1
Creator3d, the other is an Ultra5), I'm using the 2006.0 sparc install
CD and the "generic" 2006.0 sparc64 profile (not the sparc64/2.4
profile). I can't seem to get these guys up and running on the newest
2.6 kernel. If you read back through the list, I've got several U1s
running with 2.6.15-r5 quite successfully (incidentally, I haven't
tried that kernel yet), so I know the 2.6 kernel will work.

I'm going to give the 2.6.15-r5 kernel a shot, since I've had luck
with that in the past, but I wanted to poll the list to see if anyone
was running 2.6.17-r1 and having any amount of success.

TIA

Check your kernel configs, i'm using it just fine on a U5 & V240.
If you want to test some try my latest experimental cd @
http://dev.gentoo.org/~gustavoz/sparc/experimental/
It has 2.4.32-sparc-r6, 2.6.16-gentoo-r11 and 2.6.17-gentoo-r1 IIRC.

Any suggestions for which kernel config options to enable/avoid? I'm
playing with 2.6.16-hardened-r9 now, and still not having much luck.
After SILO comes up, I get the following:

boot: selinux
Allocated 8 Megs of memory at blah! for kernel
Loaded kernel version 2.6.16

Remapping the kernel... done.
Registering callbacks... done.
Booting Linux...

Then it just stops. STOP+a doesn't work (I'm guessing because it's a
hardened kernel?). So I power-cycle, boot back into a 2.4 kernel,
change a few things, recompile, rinse repeat.

Turns out your "experimental CD" was just what I needed. I haven't
gone through and studied the differences in the configs yet, but I
snagged the 2.6.16 kernel config out of /proc/config.gz after booting
to the CD. I was able to use that (enabling the necessary SELinux
features of course) to get a bootable kernel. Now I am well on my way
to having an SELinux sparc system (on the 3rd page of the how-to ;-) )!

Thanks for the help. (And continue the good work!)
