Nvidia Geforce 4 ti 4400
I am trying to run Gnome, and lets just say I cannot get it configured correctly. I tried using the walkthrough of getting nvidia from the gentoo site. No go! Anyone have the xorg.cong for this card? How about the .config for the kernel? I am at my wits end.

ANY HELP WOULD BE GREAT! I can send you my IM if you are interested.... I live in California, USA

You don't give very much information. Can you at least say what
symptoms you are having? How about an X11 error line?

This does seem relevant, but I don't what it means. Can you use the
"nv" driver successfully? In your xorg.conf, set

# Driver "nvidia"
Driver "nv"

in the relevant section. If X works then, at least we know it's just
your nvidia driver that's broke. Does it modprobe/rmmod without errors?

The driver "nv" is the non-3d-accelerated nvidia display driver that
comes with Xfree/Xorg. The driver "nvidia" is what you use with the
proprietary, binary-only drivers from NVIDIA.

If "nvidia" isn't working, it sounds like you haven't properly installed
your drivers. First, "emerge nvidia-glx" and then "emerge
nvidia-kernel". Next, "modprobe nvidia" should load the kernel module.
Finally, "opengl-update nvidia" should adjust lib paths such that the
binary GL libs from NVIDIA are being used by X.

If you have done all of this and X still isn't working, something else
is wrong it would seem. Also, you might try to generate a config file
by running "X -configure". This typically does a pretty good job of
autodetecting and creating a xorg.conf.

Hi,

Also make sure that the kernel is not compiled with DRI enabled.
