only root can use console command?
Conserver,

I am missing something simple here, I think. I have setup 3 console
servers, and they each work fine, if the user is root. If I attempt to
access the console of a system as a user I get the following:

> console boromir

console: connect(): 782@console: Connection refused

I have this in my conserver.cf file:

default * { logfile /logs/console/&; timestamp 30ma; rw *; }

I thought that setting the 'rw *' in the default config line would allow
any user to connect. What am I doing wrong? Why can't normal user
accounts access the console command?

Console -V output below.

Thanks,

Phil

What do you have in the conserver.passwd file? You *DO* have one,
don't you? :-)

Most of my users are set to authenticate with their /etc/passwd file
entry...

RE: only root can use console command? [ In reply to ]
I don't have a conserver.passwd file. I don't want to force authentication for users who already have access to the machine. This install is a replacement for conserver version 7.x. It did not require authentication. Currently the user 'root' does not require authentication.

Where do I define authentication anyway?

Phil
