Re: Cherokee admin launcher? [ In reply to ]
I have been using the CLI command cherokee-admin for at least a year
now, I just discovered this by reading the changelogs. So, to clarify
things, I am just curious, I know how to use cherokee-admin.

It would normally be at $(prefix)/bin/cherokee-admin-launcher, but:

Cherokee Web Server 1.2.101 on Ubuntu 10.04 64bit

From what I can tell it's not included in the cherokee-admin package:
http://packages.debian.org/sid/amd64/cherokee-admin/filelist

I assume this is because including it would require a minimum of X11
installed and running on the local machine given that it launches the
default web browser (and Lynx would most definitely be incompatible with
cherokee-admin). Given that many of the installations run on remote servers
without X11 installed and/or running it wouldn't make sense to include it.

Gunnar, can you verify?

Hi,

The package is not currently including cherokee-admin-launcher, please
use cherokee-admin instead.

We should, yes, be providing a package with the launcher. However, due
to precisely what you mention here (and lack of time to play with it),
I have not made an extra package for this utility. Of course, I don't
want to drag all those dependencies into the base cherokee-admin
package.

cherokee-admin is what you are seeking.

cherokee-admin -b &

That will bind the admin to all IP's/interfaces.

Be sure to grab the generated password from there.

Then in a web browser:

http://serverip:9090/

Provide login details.

You do not need any GUI environment on the server itself.

Instead as is typical, use your GUI device from across the network or
the internet to access the admin interface.

Lynx and text browsers WILL NOT work with cherokee-admin.
