Bricolage 2.0 Drops
Fellow Bricoleurs,

After years of incubation, refinement and testing, the Bricolage development team is thrilled to announce the release of Bricolage 2. The new Bricolage boasts a sleeker interface, a wealth of new features for content authors and administrators, and a wider range of platform options.

This is the first major-version update since Bricolage 1.0 was released in 2001. It’s also the fastest, smartest, best-looking Bricolage yet. Download it today!

New features
------------

The interface: Bricolage 2 boasts a totally-revamped interface (based on the
[Prototype]" and [script.aculo.us] JavaScript frameworks). The amazingly-flexible Bricolage approach to document editing is now also amazingly easy to work with. You can add fields (and groups of fields) to documents without leaving your current screen. You can re-order elements by dragging them. Working with categories and keywords is easier too, with search-as-you-type autocompletion.

The back end: Bricolage 2 makes document definitions even more flexible, so administrators can specify the minimum and maximum number of occurrences for any field or subelement. Other highlights include native support for thumbnail images, streamlined job and event tracking, and high-speed SFTP publishing.

The platform: The new Bricolage runs on both Apache 2 and Apache 1.3, and can use either [PostgreSQL] (8.1+) or [MySQL] (5.0.3+) as its repository.

There are many, many more changes, features and improvements in Bricolage 2. For a complete list, see the [changelog]. For the complete history of ongoing changes in Bricolage, see [Bric::Changes]. Better yet, [download] [Bricolage 2] today, and see for yourself!

About Bricolage
---------------

[Bricolage](http://www.bricolagecms.org/), an open-source enterprise-class content management system, greatly simplifies the complex tasks of creating, managing, and publishing the vast libraries of content essential to any organization. With advanced features such as fully-configurable workflows, customizable document types, and comprehensive Perl and PHP templating support, Bricolage has been designed from the ground up to scale to meet the demanding needs of large organizations around the world. This flexibility and scalability led <cite>eWeek</cite> to hail Bricolage as “quite possibly the most capable enterprise-class open-source application available.”

Re: Bricolage 2.0 Drops [ In reply to ]
Hi!

Also congratulations from me, currently just lurking and looking
what's happening in Bricolage world. It's nice to see how far
Bricolage developed from the already cool CMS it always was since the
early days.

All the new and reworked stuff around the project, the fresh new web
site, the professional references, the well-prepared github wiki, the
documentation, the db backend flexibility, the dynamic UI,
unbelievable what you did to it.

Great!

Thanks.

Kind regards,
Steffen

Wow, very kind words, Steffen. Thank you.

BTW, any interest in updating the German localization? :-P

Best,

David

:-) but sorry, I can't commit. I don't have current Bric projects
where I could do that en passant. Maybe Rolf Schaufelberger is still
on that?

yes, I'm still listening on the list. Currently I'm busy with preparing the German Perl-Workshop ,
so if this can wait until end of June I can have a look on it.
is there an easy way to find new texts or text that need to be updated ?
Are there still these button as image files ?

One of my former Denison students actually did that in fall 2008, IIRC, so it shouldn't be as bad as it was.

BTW one of the language people at Denison had tentatively agreed to update the Portuguese localization, her and I just never set up the meeting to do it. If Aaron or Mike are interested in giving her that info, that could happen.

Also, I know someone who can update the Italian localization as well. Been meaning to get with her for a while. ;)

I can ping them, but Portuguese is actually one of the most up-to-date.

That would be nice. The Italian library could use some love.

git clone git@github.com:bricoleurs/bricolage.git (or fork it) and look at the comments at the bottom of lib/Bric/Util/Lang/de_de.pm.

Yes, unfortunately.

Well I dont' know ;-)
I have not much experience with git , so what I did was :

git clone git@github.com:bricoleurs/bricolage.git

changed the file de_de.pm and executed git commit, expecting that a commit sends the file back from where it came from.
So, if this is not the case, see the file attached.

See http://wiki.github.com/bricoleurs/bricolage/contributing-a-bug-fix.

What you want to do to send the patch is detailed in http://wiki.github.com/bricoleurs/bricolage/contributing-via-email.

No, git is distributed: unlike svn or cvs, where commits are made
to a central repository, commits in git are done on a local branch.
You have to *push* commits from your local branch to a remote one.
