Newer versions of Apache::Session (1.83+, I believe) throw a different error when the session does not yet exist.

When $r->filename is a directory (like your comp root) and the uri ends in / (or _is_ /), the filename munging is totally broken.

This seems to fix it, but I'm not sure I understand the logic.
