Nvidia Drivers
I know you usually build a custom kernelwith the .at extension... will
the old 4kstack fix not work in your custom kernels?

And if it will... Will you be making this change temporarily?

Because I'm starting to go through UT withdrawal! Should have looked
that up before upgrading to FC2! :(

which is the old 4kstack fix? Is this a patch reverting the 4stack
changes to kernel 2.6.6?

I hope nvidia is faster. ;)

Re: Nvidia Drivers [ In reply to ]
There are many forums out there that will explain in great details. For
example, see here [nvnews.net].

The fast version: the Nvidia driver will NOT work with FC2's kernel
because of the 4KSTACKS problem. Unfortunately, FC2's kernel no longer
has the config option to disable this new "feature", so you will need to
:

- recompile a new kernel (i.e. a stock kernel). For example, 2.6.5-bk2,
or 2.6.6-bk4

- make sure to use Fedora's own config files (from
/usr/src/linux-2.6.5-1.358/configs), and turn off the options
CONFIG_4KSTACKS and CONFIG_REGPARM

It will not go away. nvidia has to fix this.

I agree with Ralf. Reverting the 4kstack stuff is quite painful, and
there is another kernel rpm coming up soon, so it will be a full time
job to have nvidia-compatible kernels.

I myself only have nvidia graphics cards, so I'll be waiting for a new
nvidia release for my FC2 boxes, too. :(

Let's give nvidia a little bit more time, FC2 is just a couple of days
old, so is kernel 2.6.6.

These are marked as bleeding [1], as they have the 4kstack issue. But
some people kept reporting their systems would run with the drivers,
and asked for rpms.

[1] From the website: "bleeding packages means asking for trouble!",
e.g. don't use them ;)

Hello Paulo,

The Long Lived Drivers are now up to 319.23 , maybe they have fixed the
bug ?

Best Regards

Milorad
