OT: Autoresponders
Hi!

Could someone please unsubscribe these people (sorry, no admin contact
visible in the headers) who don't manage to setup their autoresponders
appropriately?

Kind regards,

Hannah.

welcome to the club every post gets 2-3 of these
{each time new idiots/people, but worse as most only respond to the from: sender
not the envelope-sender/reply-to: which would be the list-address,
there is no one but you who can see/report them}

i just follow up each one with a mail to the list /ccd to the autoresponder
explaining the abuse/issue to them and asking the list-manager to kick them
{they seem to get removed}

and of course no BCP compliant autoresponder would respond to this list
and any autoresponder that did should NEVER respond direct to sender

so i have no idea how all these people get it so wrong, and apparently only on this mailinglist??

I'm thinking of investigating an auto forging of autoresponders unsub request
but that too would be abusive so i guess i shouldn't

At least this list seems to protect unsubscription with some kind of
token too (see the List-Unsubscribe header).

Kind regards,

Hannah.

Envelope sender is different from reply-to here. Reply-to is the list,
envelope sender is *not*. (So it'd be finer, and if the list didn't
parse mails to the envelope sender to distinguish bounces from other
mails to the envelope sender, would result in eventual unsubscription
indeed - heh, perhaps they "fixed" the autoresponders to not get them
unsubscribed from mailing lists by not sending mails to envelope senders
any more... *g*)

I see wrong autoresponders elsewhere, too.

Kind regards,

Hannah.

I've had success with the -owner address before (eg spf-help-owner@)
on other lists where this problem has arisen. It helps if the list
administrator can filter out the OoO messages so they never reach
people, or use it to auto-unsubscribe people ;) It also helps if the
list administrator isn't busy with other things, as has been the issue
on various lists.

It might be helpful if the list added a

Precedence: list

header...

it would work to stop M$ exchange auto-replies maybe

{ie exchange is faulty so the list matching their faulty behaviour would make the list compatible, but also faulty}

on the other hand their admins could simply configure exchange properly

to
A not respond to anything but the return-path {never the from: sender: or any other massage header}
B to not respond to any list {or just this one}

as the issue isn't people responding to the list {this would be less bad}
its people responding to the posters not the list

as its since 1997 that precedence: headers were recommended to NOT BE USED due to the fact every server treats them entirely differently thus adding them will have different/unpredictable effect with every make/model of server

rfc 2076

Precedence: Non-standard,controversial,discouraged.
