Greetings!

Any hints on getting an Aruba Wireless switch working with Rancid? The OS=
is somewhat like the Cisco IOS. I succesfully tested the clogin porti=
on and after the initial setup it was able to pull the config. Then it st=
arted emailing about not being able to contact the router. Looking at =
the logs I see that it is waiting for resposnes to commands which the =
Aruba doesn't support (show vlan) being one. Is there a way to customize =
rancid for this device?
Thanks!

I would make a copy of clogin (expect script) and rancid (perl script) and then modify the rancid (perl script) to send the commands your want or comment out the commands you do or don't want it to send; the commands that are sent is what rancid (perl script) parses. The rancid (perl script) calls the clogin (expect script). You would need to make sure and replace the "clogin" with the name of the copy that you made. Dunno if this is what your looking for, but HTH.

Hi Alejandro,

It sounds like clogin is referencing another .cloginrc file.

You can make sure by using the -f flag when running clogin - clogin -f
/location/of/.cloginrc

Cheers,

Gareth

Solved, thanks

I was logged as root and there were 2 .cloginrc files on both root and rancid2 user

Removed the root one

Hi team,

My .cloginrc file is not working properly.

For some reason, is not using what I put on .cloginrc file

I just have

Add user * username

Add password * password enablepassword

Add method * ssh

But when I test the login with clogin x.x.x.x, it then try to use telnet and the old credentials

Any idea?

Re: (no subject) [ In reply to ]
Well, I solved that easy... I had commented out: add autoenable 10.1.1.1 1
while trouble shooting prior to firmware upgrade. All is working now.
Thanks anyway

this should fix that.

This is all in the man pages somewhere, but here goes:

That's a config file from the rancid 2.3 series; the 3.x series uses a
semicolon ";" as a field separator and not a colon ":" as was used in
2.3. This is to avoid issues with IPv6 addresses; otherwise the format
is the same.

Each line has 3 fields:

device name: this can be it's fqdn or an IP address
device type: a device type as defined in rancid (see [1] below)
status: "up" means the device is working and rancid will poll it. Any
other value means down and rancid will not poll it

[1] A device type of "cisco" or "hp" does not have to mean the device
was made by Cisco or Hewlett Packard. If Acme Inc made a device that
copies Cisco IOS config closely, then the cisco type would probably work
for it. On the other hand, recent Cisco OSes (eg GSR, Nexus and XR) are
a lot different from classic IOS so the cisco type doesn't work for
them, you use types like cisco-gsr, cisco-nx and cisco-xr.

HP kit (liek Dell) has a reputation for being badge engineered and
sometimes it feels like every model is completely different. Usually you
have to find out what the actual OEM device is, and use that type.

Confusing? you betcha.

[2] There a possible optional fourth field in that file, it is treated
as a comment. I used it a lot to document the date and reason I marked
something down, and it shows up in the daily status emails. Useful tip!

you trimmed too much. but, i suspect you need to read the caveats and
following sections of clogin(1).
