Configuring Rancid
Dear All,
I have a plan to automate backup my  Cisco routers and switches and found Rancid would be ideal.I have just installed Rancid using dnf on centos 8 64 Bit version
rancid-3.12-1.el8.x86_64
I checked on the net but was not able to find any good configuring docs
appreciate any advice or a good link which has complete documentation on how to configure rancid
appreciate and thanks

regards
simon
Re: Configuring Rancid [ In reply to ]
I was going to point to the ancient one I wrote for Daemon News, but it’s long gone apparently. This one looks pretty good.

Once installed, the configuration is pretty much the same, except maybe the email configuration.

The Network Startup Resource Center currently has a lab that walks
participants through installing and getting rancid running as part of a
“network monitoring and management” course. Base operating system
will be Ubuntu rather than RedHat/CentOS but as Chris mentioned the
configuration/running bits are the same across operating systems.

You can find the lab at
<https://nsrc.org/activities/agendas/en/nmm-5-days/netmgmt/en/rancid/exercises-rancid.html>
and the rest of the course at
<https://nsrc.org/activities/agendas/en/nmm-5-days/>.

The course does assume you have access to a lab layout similar to what
is listed in the opening presentations but the rancid bit should be easy
to tune to your environment.

Disclaimer: I do work with the NSRC.

rancid also comes with README and UPGRADING files that installation-related
instruction that you might find useful. These are installed in the
datarootdir, typically <prefix>/share, but both prefix and datarootdir can
be altered by the installer, so YMMV.
