[OT] good but cheap switch
Hi,

Does anyone have any reccomendations for a good, cheap switch? Good
in the sense that it supports at least 802.1q and has decent
performance, support for routing protocols would be a bonus (ie RIPv2
or OSPF), ideally with a couple of GigE ports.

Eg, anyone have experience of the LevelOne GSW-2472TGX?

Seems cheap at least.. (though no routing protocol support).

regards,

I recently performed little research and found:

Trendnet TEG-S2400I -- $258.38
D-Link DES-3226 (64 VLANs, 24 10/100, 2 GBIC slots) -- $286.50
GSW-2472TGX (802.1Q, 802.3ad trunk, bandwidth control) -- $407.61
HP2524 (30 VLANs, 2 GBIC slots, 24 10/100) -- $450
Cisco 2950-24 (64 VLANs, 24 10/100, SI feature set) -- $6xx
Cisco 2950T-24 (250 VLANs, 24 10/100, 2 10/100/1000, EI feature set) -- $8xx

I have never used any of these though...

Ooops... I lied.

I've used various Cisco switches through the CCNP course but never in
production.

I'm using IBM 8275-217 right now. This is 16-port 10BaseTX, 1 port
10/100 Mbps Uplink w/ 2 Module Slot Ethernet Switch which supports up to
32 802.1q vlans. Works great in "router on a stick" configuration.

T.

I'd recommmend Allied Telesyn products.
The AT-8326GB has 24 ports and 2 gbics(or 2 integrated gigabit-tx) ports.
~400$ :-)
