Hmmm. Sounds like something else is going on as /dev/null works for
me.

echo /dev/null >~/.qmail-nobody
echo to: markd-nobody | qmail-inject

Feb 7 12:39:47 bushwire qmail: starting delivery 11148: msg 17657 to local markd-nobody...
Feb 7 12:39:48 bushwire qmail: delivery 11148: success: did_0+0+1/

What sort of complaint are you getting?
