APU2 microprobe
Hello Forum

In the interesting Sharkfest paper the pcengines board APU2 is
mentioned.
Is the APU2 like an aggregation TAP (2 port for the traffic and one
monitor port which forwardes the traces to ntopng?
Thank's a lot!

Hi Joe,

The APU2 is not a TAP, it is a standard pc. Ntopng runs inside the APU2
itself. If you need a monitoring solution based on a TAP, you will need
to do the TAP aggregation separately and then feed the aggregated
traffic through a single APU2 port.

Please note that you can install ntopng on any standard pc with at
least one NIC.
We use the APU2 for a different task, which is to intercept packets
being forwarded from one network interface to another to monitor and
possibly shape/drop them. This is why we have are interested in a board
with multiple NICs.

Emanuele
