n2disk: 100Gbps?
Hi.

We acquired a "Silicom PE3100G2DQIR-QX4 V:1.4" which is based on Intel FM10420.
As described in the PF_RING guide (https://www.ntop.org/guides/pf_ring/zc.html#supported-cards), FM10420 is supported.
Therefore, can we assume that 100Gbps can be recorded with n2disk? (a corresponding hardware provided!)

Thank you for your help.
Regards,
Marcel

Hi Marcel
fm10k-based adapters support 100G connectivity, however
they are not optimized to handle full 100Gbps.
Please consider using FPGA adapters if you want to record
100Gbps to disk (and a good NVMe disks array).

Regards
Alfredo

Hi Alfredo

Thank you for the quick reply!
Which FPGA card, NVMe, system would you suggest?

Regards,
Marcel

Re: n2disk: 100Gbps? [ In reply to ]
Hi Marcel
there are a few options, for n2disk we recommend Napatech or
Fiberblaze as they support native bulk PCAP mode.
As of the storage, you can use n2disk to write to multiple NVMe
disks in parallel (I do not have a specific model to recommend) or
you can use SAS HDDs with 2-3 Raid controllers (each controller is
usually able to write up to 35-45Gbps).

Alfredo

Hi Alfredo

That sounds a little bit like a challenge.
There is no "nBox Recorder" for 100Gbps?

Regards,
Marcel

Re: n2disk: 100Gbps? [ In reply to ]
Hi Marcel
we have a reference box that we tested at 100Gbps, however all the boxes
we have in production at the moment are <60Gbps.
If you tell me what is your preferred hw manufacturer I can send you some specs.

Alfredo
