Re: FiOS issue in NYC Area? [ In reply to ]
We have also been experiencing routing issues between Cogent and our
Verizon FiOS circuit. Packet loss began occurring around 5PM EST on 5/11.

We are seeing the issue appear at node 152.179.145.233

Reachability keeps going up and down through this node. Is it 768K day
yet???

Re: FiOS issue in NYC Area? [ In reply to ]
It still looks the same to us. We're seeing intermittent packet loss
between NTT/Cogent and VZ FiOS in the NY metro area, we saw it start around
3:00-4:00PM ET on 5/11.

We're still seeing the issue here as well. Attached is the level of packet
loss we've been seeing here.

Thanks all for the feedback. We are still seeing issues as well. Someone
reached out to me off list and I am working with them to see if we can get
this resolved.

Is there any followup to this issue? We have a couple of fios customers that were experiencing one way audio where they could not hear the caller. We have the recordings that indicate the caller audio is reaching our hosted platform and the audio is good in both directions.

Re: FiOS issue in NYC Area? [ In reply to ]
The issue seems to be with traffic going to Verizon. From all the traces we
have seen (we looked from Level3, Cogent and others) the common denominator
is br[2]3.nyc4. The traffic does not go through that device(s) then there
isn't an issue. Also the issue seems to be with certain ports. So if you
have one phone using say port 5062 and another using 5063 the one using
5063 may have the issue and the one using 5062 may not. You will most
likely see the same devices having the issue over and over again, pulling
it off the network for the NAT hole to close up may help since the next
time it goes out it may use a different port. Over all it seems like they
are doing some sort of hashing which is causing the traffic to go over a
bad/overloaded card that is blackholing/dropping the packets.

I spoke with a few people today from different organizations and they all
said that they would be reaching out to Verizon. If anyone has the ear of
an engineer at VZ please let me know. I have a few PCAP's clearly showing
the issue along with many traces.

I remember 128K day and 256K day, and warnings of impending doom
on both occasions. And both times, there were those who had to withdraw
from the DFZ and issue emergency purchase orders because they didn't
plan ahead for their CAPEX needs...
Re: FiOS issue in NYC Area? [ In reply to ]
It's been stable for us since around 11PM EST last night (5/13)

Anyone else still seeing issues?

I got an email from someone at Verizon late last night that I should
re-check and see if it is working. If anyone is still having issues let me
know and I will reach out to them.

Re: FiOS issue in NYC Area? [ In reply to ]
Traffic is getting dropped through node: 8-1-2.BR2.NYC4.ALTER.NET

1. <redacted>
2. <redacted>
3. te0-0-0-14.nr01.b026191-1.jfk01.atlas.cogentco.com

4. te0-3-0-11.rcr24.jfk01.atlas.cogentco.com

5. be2897.ccr42.jfk02.atlas.cogentco.com

6. be3496.ccr31.jfk10.atlas.cogentco.com

7. 8-1-2.BR2.NYC4.ALTER.NET

8. ???

Occasionally a packet or two will get through 8-1-2.BR2.NYC4.ALTER.NET

What's strange is the issue is only occurring with specific IPs on my
office FiOS circuit (even within the same /24).

These are the same symptoms we experienced in May 2019 [
https://puck.nether.net/pipermail/outages/2019-May/012266.html]

I was under the impression that Verizon has made a change on their end to
resolve the issues.

Thanks,
