commit sync hanging, now config has exclusive lock
Has anyone seen this problem before? We are running 5.6, today I
went to do a 'commit sync' after some changes, and it has been hanging
here for about an hour:

[edit]
admin@jr1.xxxx# commit synchronize
re0: configuration check succeeds

If I try and configure on other session, it shows the config
with an exclusive lock

admin@jr1.xxxx> configure
Entering configuration mode
Users currently editing the configuration:
admin terminal p0 (pid 18060) on since 2003-04-18 16:38:21 MST, idle 01:02:12
exclusive [edit]

Any ideas? Is there a way to nicely kill that commit, and try it
again? Is there any way to tell why it is hanging?

(Of course, this router is not under a support contract.)

Is there anything in the process list that looks odd?

commit sync hanging, now config has exclusive lock [ In reply to ]
it is possible that commit sync failed because of the exclusive lock.

you can break exclusive locks with a request command and force the user who currently have the lock to logout. unfortunately I dont have immediate access to the equipment.

you can also kill the appropriate pids (mgd, and the -cli above it), to break the lock.. or reboot.

commit sync hanging, now config has exclusive lock [ In reply to ]
I was actually just about to post this....

Yes, we killed the user with a 'request system logout user admin'
(even though a 'show system users' did not show this user online,
the mgd process was still there.)

The root problem is a dead re1, stuck in a reboot loop.

thanks!
bill

commit sync hanging, now config has exclusive lock [ In reply to ]

The commit should have timed out the attempt to talk to a dead RE,
but a bug (PR 33960) prevents this. 33960 was fixed in 6.0 and later
releases, but not in anything earlier. Putting the fix in an earlier
release isn't a big effort, so just holler if you need/want it.

Thanks,
