Hi there,

Sorry if this has been asked before, but I checked the list archives and
can't see any mention of it.

What's the difference between an M40 Enhanced SCB and a normal M40 SCB?
Is it possible to use the M40 Enhanced SCB in a normal (non-enhanced) M40?

Cheers,

Rich

An M40e is completely different chassis to the M40 and therefore has
different SCBs.

The M40 (normal not enhanced) has three types of SCBs

SCB-M40-S which is the older version with Internet Processor I
SCB-E-M40 which is the newer version with Internet Processor II
SCB-E-16-M40 which has IP II and 16 MB Ram

M40e's do not have SCBs they have SFMs, this is because the M40e is
based on the M160 chassis and shares many of its parts

Hope this clears it up

Thanks Gary, this was what I was after. How can you tell which one is
installed in a chassis remotely? Is there a mapping somewhere between the
710-xxxxxx part numbers you get from typing "show chassis hardware" to the
list that you have given above?

Cheers,

Rich

If you have an SCB-E-M40 or an SCB-E-16-M40, it will say Internet Processor
II in show chassis hardware...

SCB REV 02 710-001838 AMXXXX Internet Processor
II

This is an SCB-E-M40. The original SCB-M40-S doesn't say that at the end of
the line.

I don't know how to differentiate between the original and the 16MB version
of the IPII SCB.

Regards,

Guy

I don't have an M40 handy but try 'show chassis scb [detail|extensive]'
