NI-XMR-MR Management Module - Firmware
Dear All

Looking at release notes is 5.6h the last firmware supported on the NI-XMR-MR Management Modules ?

I have some MLXe devices (1st gen) which were from what I can tell just a XMR with a new label from brocade called a MLXe

show module
Module Status Ports Starting MAC
M1 (left ):NI-XMR-MR Management Module Active
M2 (right):NI-XMR-MR Management Module Standby(Ready State)
F1: NI-X-HSF Switch Fabric Module Active
F2: NI-X-HSF Switch Fabric Module Active
F3:

S2: NI-XMR-1Gx20-SFP 20-port 1GbE/100FX Module CARD_STATE_UP 20 0024.387f.ff30

show chassis

Power 2: ( 32006000 103586103561 - AC 1200W): Installed (OK)
Power 3: not present
Power 4: not present
Total power budget for chassis = 2400 W
Total power used by system core = 450 W
Total power used by LPs = 341 W
Total power available = 1609 W
Slot Power-On Priority and Power Usage:
Slot1 pri=1 module type=NI-XMR-1Gx20-GC 20-port 10/100/1000 Copper Module power usage=156W
Slot2 pri=1 module type=NI-XMR-1Gx20-SFP 20-port 1GbE/100FX Module power usage=185W

I was able to boot up 6.3c firmware but it didn't let me configure anything saying firmware needs to be downgraded to below 5.8 ie 5.6

Kindest Regards

Re: NI-XMR-MR Management Module - Firmware [ In reply to ]
Hey James,

That's correct, Gen1 cards like the NI-XMR-10Gx4 or the NI-XMR-1Gx20-SFP are not supported beyond the 5600 firmware train. Gen1.1 cards like the BR-MLX-10Gx4-X or the BR-MLX-1GFX24-X and newer should upgrade past the 5600 firmware train just fine.

Since nowadays none of the aforementioned cards can hold a full IPv4 -and- IPv6 DFZ table at the same time it should be dirt cheap to pick up some refurbished cards from your vendor of choice to upgrade to the firmware you want. Realistically though, you are probably able to earn back your investment for a newer 1RU sized device on power consumption savings alone..

Best regards,
Martijn
