Extreme X690/X870 with third party optics - DDMI broken?
All,

Does anyone have any Extreme X690/X870 switches that they're using third
party optics in? Or come to that, Extreme 40G and 100G optics? :)

I'm trying to use 10G SFP+, 40G QSFP and 100G QSFP28's from Flexoptix in these
switches, and none of them are showing correct values in DDMI ("show port
transceiver info"). The 10G SFP+'s work fine in X460s and X670s and report
correct DDMI values.

Running 22.3.1.4 (and tried patch 1-4 too).

(10G LR SFP+)
X690.2 # show port 19 tran in

Port Temp TxPower RxPower TxBiasCurrent Voltage-Aux1/ Voltage-Aux2
(Celsius) (dBm) (dBm) (mA) Vcc (Volts) (Volts)
================================================================================
19 0.35* -16.27* 6.14* 0.17* 0.02* N/A
================================================================================

(40G LR4 QSFP)
X690.1 # show port 57 tran info

Port Temp TxPower RxPower TxBiasCurrent Voltage-Aux1/ Voltage-Aux2
(Celsius) (dBm) (dBm) (mA) Vcc (Volts) (Volts)
================================================================================
57 -63.88* 1.73* -1.42* 75.29* 6.54* N/A
" -12.65* 6.26* 5.15 " "
" 7.20* 5.29* 114.73* " "
" 6.96* 7.31 63.01* " "
================================================================================

I see the same symptoms on a 100G LR4 QSFP28 and 100G AOC cable.

I've even tried using a genuine Extreme 100G AOC cable and it shows the same
problem. I did log a TAC case for this particular problem, and they say it's
just cosmetic, because AOC cables don't need to provide DDMI info (and logged
a software bug to make it not display the incorrect values).

Unfortunately I don't have any genuine Extreme 10G, 40G or 100G optics to test
with (and at the price of genuine Extreme 100G optics, I'm highly unlikely to,
either!).

Anyone else seen this?

Simon

How about if you put these (10G) modules into some other switches/routers ?
It looks like some random/errorous data read via I2C. Do you have any
faults in switch log ?
What is show in show port 19 trans in detail ?
Eventually, debug hal show optic slot 1 port 19

We use a lot of SFP+ from xbest.pl, sourced from e-optolink and we have
no problems on extreme.
Also 40G QSFP+ modules are fine.
No experience with 100G
