SVM
All,

I have a SVM called VS1_NFS on my FAS6290 running Ontap 9.1. My question is can I delete the volume called “VS1_NFS_root” that is created that is 1 GB in size? We are migrating to new disk and wondering if I need this volume?

At the CLI enter:

vserver show

If the volume name shows up as the root volume of a vserver you will most probably need it. If you do need it, you can always migrate it just like you did for the non root volumes.

In any SVM, the root volume is where all your other SVM volume
junction-paths start.
If you rip out the foundation (the svm_root vol) then the SVM will no
longer work.
