Thanks Bill,

Is there a way to test to what level of commits the PPA is updated. i.e. if
someone tells me they just committed a patch I want to test, I need to know
if the ppa image has that.

I think I answered my own question. if I look at the version of what I
built from source:
MythTV Version : v34-Pre-240-g1594f64c7e
This web page
https://launchpad.net/~mythbuntu/+archive/ubuntu/34
shows:

2:34.0~master.202306040719.1594f64c7e~ubuntu23.04.1 5 hours ago

That must be the same version??

Was writing this when your last message came in:


dpkg -l mythtv or an early line in the backend log will show the date/time. I don't
know if there's a way to compare the SHA1 of the commit because *buntu's are
different from MythTV's git,


dpkg shows: v34.0~master.202306030719.8f966c30b8~ubuntu23.04.1
git describe shows: v34-Pre-240-g1594f64c7e

The version you have installed via the PPA appears to be from your commit
at:
https://github.com/MythTV/mythtv/commit/8f966c30b8c30bd137d958c8770d9f7c1de482a2

Looking at the PPA for 23.04, it looks like you have an update available to
commit: 1594f64c7e

The most recent commit on master (as of ~20 minutes ago is now:
https://github.com/MythTV/mythtv/commit/2915ae4bee5af4ef313f83226a0faf33c90c60c3

So in short and to answer the original question, the Ubuntu packages do
seem to indicate the commit.
