Incorrect sorting of UPNP 'Date' folder?
Hi,

I was excited to find that my new Samsung TV can see my MythTV Server on
my home LAN, a big improvement on my old one.  (From reading around the
subject I believe this is through the UPNP interface but I'm not an
expert.)

However, when I browse through the 'Recordings' folder structure to find
the most recently-recorded items by entering the 'Date' folder, I do not
see the entries sorted correctly by time. Rather, they are sorted
alphanumerically by strings like 'Fri Dec 20 2016' and 'Fri Feb 21 2020'
- which is arbitrary and not a true date sort.  Obviously it makes
finding things difficult.

This seems like a trivial problem, but it is in fact (for me anyway)
important as finding stuff by date/time is my primary usecase.

Having read all the guidance I am hesitant to raise a ticket, but I did
look through the bug database and as far as I could see this issue is
not in there.

Can anyone point me in the right direction for my next step?

Thanks

- Chris

Agreed. Like you said, it should be sorting on the actual date not the
text representation of the date.

Its definitely a bug. Can you file a issue here:

https://github.com/MythTV/mythtv/issues

Thanks.

I reported recently that my (older) Panasonic TV was not using the
'duration' info when playing recordings; but it does get the
date-sorting correct, although the display is like 'Tue 24 Nov 2020'

The 'Recordings' list also sorts correctly by date, although there the
display format is 'mm/dd/yy' instead of the expected UK order.

I don't think my TV has options to change these settings, and
historically the DLNA/UPnP experience has been dependent on the TV
model. I still get good vanilla-playback that way.

FWIW the server in my Seagate NAS gives a date-sorted display with
earlier files at the top...

Chris unless Samsung have improved their game
Mine won't play ts files over uPnP
Dont remember usb
Won't play some mp4 files over uPnP but will play on usb
Will play avi files on uPnP

I'm talking containers, offhand I don't recall any video-file-format that does not play.
