Another issue w/ Mythfrontend v32 on the Nvidia Shield
Hello Again,

I am still working through several issues I have found since upgrading
my shield to v31.

Last night, I was watching video and the video would frequently stop.
If I press pause/unpause, it would start to play again. However, if I
just left it paused, it would eventually give this message:  Video Frame
Buffering Failed Too Many Times..    The freezes happen randomly every
5-10 seconds making it frustrating to watch.

Here are the frontend log messages.

The same video seems to play fine with leanfrontend or plex on the shield.

I tried changing the audio read ahead to 200 or 300 to see if that would
help, but the issue remained the same.

Any thoughts on this?

Michael

The "interop" stuff was added in v31 by Mark Kendall and I am afraid I
do not understand it. I suggest you bring this to Mark's attention.

In the meantime as a workaround you can try changing the playback
profile to use "mediacodec decode-only" or "standard".

while not the same issue as Michael, i too am seeing issues with the default mediacodec setup. i've 5 jumppoints defined; liveTV, Recordings, Videos, Main Menu, and Guide (bound to various F-keys if it matters). When using these from within playback (liveTV & recordings tested so far) there is a very noticeable delay (in the relm of 5-15seconds before the action actually happens. Also the FFWDSTICKY & RWNDSTICKY bindings cause the video & OSD output to freeze even though it is actually seeking in the background.

Using the Decode-only option resolves all these issues. jumppoints work, and the sticky ffwd/rwnd work.

Re: Another issue w/ Mythfrontend v32 on the Nvidia Shield [ In reply to ]
i found another few issues with the Shield build.

1) using the mythbuntu theme, the Videos menu area text is black which obviously blends into the background and makes text unreadable. my rpi's with same theme do not do this. I had this on v30 too; it's never displayed right on my 2019 shield pro since i bought it. theres another theme that does it too but cant remember which one. I'm currently using the arclight theme iirc (blue theme) which doesnt have the problem although my eyes much prefer the mythbuntu theme. i cant tell if this is a problem with 2 specific themes on certain hardware (colour pallette?) or a build-specific issue so not sure how to bug it properly.
2) the shield has a built in screensaver after X period - takes you to the picture-album-of-the-day with clock on it. Lets say you pause a mythtv recording, leave it long enough so screensaver kicks in, and when you return mythtv forgets where you paused and returns to the beginning of the recording. While it's easy to add a bookmark when you pause, if you forget then you end up having to manually seek back to where you paused. v30 didnt do this so specific to the v31 apk.

other than that, i'm finding very little show-stopping v31 issues. it feels reasonably well polished.

A lot of the themes are not being maintained. I recommend Steppes, it
has been kept up to date with the latest changes.

Do you have the same behavior with pressing the home button on shield to
get to the android home and then going back into mythfrontend? That
should be the equivalent from the application point of view, and maybe
has the same problem.

I've noticed that - far less themes in v31 than 30. shame but c'est la vie. I've had a play with theming in the past and it's a lot more work than i expected and (as a beginner) i couldnt see any reason why the mythbuntu theme would be broken specifically for the sheild.
my second favorite was the mythAeon theme but that too is gone. I'm curently using the blue arc theme which is working well so far...

pressing home in a recording & re-entering mythtv will drop you back to the recordings menu and without a bookmark saved. Vague recollection theres a bookmark behaviour setting that might handle that specific bahaviour (auto-bookmark at playback stop), but wouldn't fix the pause & screensaver issue. I've just extended the screensaver kick-in time from 2-3 minutes to 10. Since i'm still on a 1080p plasma TV, having a long fixed image on screen isnt ideal.
