Cable Card
Just reading engadget HD and saw this article.

http://www.engadgethd.com/2008/09/24/cannon-pc-starts-offering-internal-cablecard-tuners-for-sale-sep/

While of course there is not support for linux atleast we are one step
closer to having the ability.

Maybe more manufactures will make them and lower the price. Then someone
can right drivers for it! Im thinking in 6mo to a year we MIGHT have
something!

(or dare i say Beyond, GBPVR or Sage)

Thoughts?

Not in the US, but find it very unlikely that it will be open enough
(or at all) to allow MythTV to support it.

At this point pry not..but maybe one day! At least now you can purchase one
non-OEM.

What we need now is:
More vendors = lower price
lower price = more user adaptation
more users = higher demand for linux
higher demand = a company supplying drivers or reverse engineered.

As far as time line who knows...but I think it will happen on day. The DRM
is starting to be pulled from music and one day hopefully video will follow
the same path. Once companies start realizing that the DRM is really only
limiting law abiding citizens and not the pirates.

I don't think the lack of that tuner is causing your problem. Playback
of recordings does not need to access the tuner. Probably something else
is happening. Perhaps the backend is failing to start because of the
missing tuner? What error are you getting when trying to play?

That makes sense, since the old tuner was on a secondary backend that was
always dropping out at the drop of a hat, sometimes even if I changed
channels too quickly! I suspect the router.
