serious issues
Hi All,

Hoping someone can shed some light on this because I am running out of ideas.
I just bought and built a new computer and am having some X Windows lock up
problems that I have never seen before. When in console mode, no problems.

Here is the relevant hardware

Soyo KT400 Dragon Ultra (Black) w/ 1 GB RAM
AMD Athlon 2600+
ATI TV Wonder for capture
GeForce 2 Nvidia PCI


I initially tried Redhat 9 and downgraded because I wasn't sure why it was
acting up... so I am using Redhat 8 for now.

PROBLEM 1
Generic Nvidia drivers work ok for dvd viewing (mplayer, xine). When using the
nvidia custom driver the video freezes after about a second or two into the
movie. This locks up X Windows (can't ctrl-alt-backspace or ctrl-alt-delete)

PROBLEM 2
Under either the generic or nvidia driver xawtv (or zapping) and X Windows
locks up a few seconds into showing some tv footage. I am not really sure how
to configure but here is my .xawtv file:

Anyway, I figure this should work before I get mythtv working, and I don't
want my system hanging for mythtv.

HARD LOCKUP HERE!


Anyone that can help at all I appreciate it. I'd be glad to post any more info
necessary to solve the problem. Ideally it would be nice to use the nvidia
driver.
