alt. remotes with PVR 250?
Anyone had any success using/training a remote other than the supplied
remote with Hauppauge 250 cards? I haven't gone to try it yet, but won't
if there's a known limitation or if the cards can't pass through more
distinct signals than the supplied remote sends...

According to the ivtv FAQ page, the card will only accept signals from
the supplied remote. Having said that, if you try it and discover
otherwise, let us know.

If it's anything like the WinTV IR receiver, then it may respond to certain
Philips remotes (or a universal programmed as a Philips). However, my
experience with the WinTV IR receiver has been that I can't get it to
respond to any more buttons than are already on the supplied Hauppauge
remote. YMMV; if anyone has success please post!

Ah, good to know. I may yet try to train a learning remote to send the
same signals as the dinky Hauppauge remote; I'll report back to the class
if I get anywhere, and especially if I can get more distinct signals
through it...

Adam, I have done this, although with my Avermedia remote and a RS
15-1994 learning remote. Since the 15-1994 has a lot more buttons
than
the Avermedia one, this is what I did:

1. Have the 15-1994 learn the buttons from my Avermedia remote.

2. For the other buttons, find some (3-digit for mine) codes not used
by the Avermedia remote (program a code into the 15-1994, if it
doesn't work with current lircd.conf, then the code is new).

3. Have irrecord capture the new code, then append that button (you
pick a name) and its code onto my lircd.conf.

4. Test new button with irw.

5. Edit my lircrc file, so the new button does whatever it's supposed
to do.

This is in a nutshell, but what I am trying to say is that what you
want to accomplish is very doable. I even built a homemade serial
receiver, and the RS 15-1994 works there as well, even the codes are
the same.

I also used http://www.hifi-remote.com/ofa/ quite a bit to get some
valuable info.
