Video Out?
I am just doing preliminary reseach on Myth TV. I want to know what the output is like if you use a TV out card to the TV. Is it as good as quality as watching it regularly? And what are the best TV out video cards that are cheap and work with Myth TV.

Thanks

Hi Kevin. Myth buffers "live tv", encoding it from the source first, then
decoding it before sending it out to the tv (allows for seperate front/back
ends). The quality will really depend on how you encode it to begin with.
If you encode at a high resolution, you will get good tv out (as good as
possible from the source). If you use a low resolution, you will get
fair/bad tv out. Read the docs as they have some resolutions to try. I
personally use 320x480 mpeg4 at 4400 (only have a p3 800, and using 93% cpu)
and the output is fine for me. As far as best TV out cards, I don't have
enough knowledge of all the cards out there to give you an answer, but my
gf4 mx400 with tv out works fine for me, although it's not exactly cheap

OK So really the TV out portion shouldn't matter to much. I was also looking
at getting a GF4 MX 400 64MB DDR card. And for video capture what do you
suggest a PVR250 or 350? I want to watch the recorded tv as clear as
watching it live.

Thanks for your help.

You can accomplish this two ways:
1) Regular Bt8x8 with a high enough bitrate and enough CPU
2) PVR-250/350.

There's no point right now in getting a 350 since none of the
"advanced" features of the 350 are in the driver, and may never be.
Read up on the ivtv list and ask your question there.
