OT: Shuttle SK41G

Hi all,

Apologies for the OT post (well, it's on-topic in the sense that I'm
trying to set up a mythTV box), but I'm tearing my hair out here and
would appreciate any suggestions.

I just got hold of a Shuttle SK41G to turn into a mythTV set-top box,
and so far everything seems to be okay, except for one thing: the TV-
out doesn't work. At all. Not during bootup (I get about 3 seconds of
mis-synced junk, just lines, and then nothing), and not from X (if at
640x480, I get the same un-synced lines; if any other res, I get
nothing).

I'm running the Debian sarge (testing) XFree86 4.2 package along with
the latest 'savage' driver from probo.com (I also tried the Debian
packaged version). The s3switch utility (which is supposed to switch
between outputs on savage cards) doesn't seem to work correctly,
either. Half the time it just crashes or complains that it can't
switch (this is when switching to CRT or LCD). And, as noted, when it
*can* switch to TV, I get no output, or garbled output.

I'm about at the end of my rope here, and have posted at viaarena about
this, but I figured maybe someone here has tried this box before. Any
suggestions would be very much appreciated!

The SK41G onboard video is a Savage8 chipset. You can go here for the
drivers:

On a sadder note, I discovered that their is some form of bug between the
onbaord Video, and the WinTV-Go Tuner card. I remember reading some vauge
information about it while googling, but no solution was found, except to
use a different video card.

However, I do believe that the TV out does work :)

Thanks for the response. Unfortunately, I'm already running these
drivers (as far as I can tell; I installed the .deb from that page and
restarted X). I will, however, double-check later that the correct
savage_drv.o is in use. On another note, the graphics chip actually
shows up as ProSavage DDR when scanning the PCI bus.

In any case, TV-out doesn't seem to work even when X isn't running (and
it should definitely work in text mode, no?) Has anyone here using
this system gotten the TV-out to work in Linux?

I'll dble-check mine. I forget since I disabled it.

Have you gotten Myth to work with it yet? No sense in spending all this
time trying to get TV-out working without knowing if Myth will work with
it or not (I once again refer to the TV tuner problems I had ;)

Myth works great (tried it as soon as it was installed).

And now I feel extremely silly; the key to getting TV-out working on
this thing was booting with only the TV connected (booting with a
monitor connected disables TV-out). Now I rejoice and have a tasty
adult beverage.
