MythTV compile problems
I am fairly new to linux, but MythTV has definitely inspired me to learn
more. The documentation has been incredibly helpful. However, at the
moment, I am having compile problems.

I am running Mandrake 9.0
The last few lines I recieve when running make are what follows:

--------------------------

g++ -shared -Wl,-soname,libmyth-0.7.so.0 -o libmyth-0.7.so.0.7.0 dialogbox.o
guidegrid.o infodialog.o infostructs.o lcddevice.o programinfo.o settings.o
themedmenu.o mythcontext.o moc_dialogbox.o moc_guidegrid.o moc_infodialog.o
moc_lcddevice.o moc_themedmenu.o -L/usr/lib/qt3/lib -L/usr/X11R6/lib
-lqt-mt -lpthread -lXext -lX11 -lm
/usr/bin/ld: cannot find -lXext
collect2: ld returned 1 exit status
make[2]: *** [libmyth-0.7.so.0.7.0] Error 1
make[2]: Leaving directory `/home/myhome/Documents/mythtv-0.7/libs/libmyth'
make[1]: *** [sub-libmyth] Error 2
make[1]: Leaving directory `/home/myhome/Documents/mythtv-0.7/libs'
make: *** [sub-libs] Error 2

-------------------------------

Any help would be very much appreciated.

Do you have XFree86-devel installed?

I had the same problem. You need to put some soft links in for those
libraries in order for myth to find them at link time. (ln -s
libXext.so.6 libXext.so for example.)

First off, I have to say, Linux tech support is far superior to Windows...

Problem fixed. I looked at the trouble shooting section for a different
problem... not sure why I didn't for this one. XFree86-devel was the
problem.

Thank you everyone. When I get home from work I am going to finish my
install. If I have any more problems, I am sure you will be seeing them.
