We're launching forums which may eventually replace the mailing lists.

There are localised forums and we'll be looking for volunteers to moderate
these in their native language.

We also need some forum strings to be translated and I'd appreciate help with
that.

It's the strings on the right in this code block: (National Flag etc)

I've already provided translations for Portuguese and Spanish, maybe the
translators for these languages can double check these as they aren't my
native language. We've had German and Polish submitted already. Other

Great idea, I find positive anything that contributes to mythtv's evolvement.

Could you please explain some more on what 'moderating' will involve in regards to time and duties?
I'd be more than happy to help with the Greek translation but with work + 2 kids + the wife
I find time to be a rare commodity. I guess most of you do, too!

Moderating would just mean removing spam that get past the filters, cautioning
users for bad language, trolling and general bad behaviour. If the warnings
are ignored, it may mean banning a user. There's no minimum time commitment,
I'd like to have at least two moderators for each forum eventually so there
should always be someone else to help out.

first moderators, eventually you may be able to nominate a second or third
moderator. Since none of the developers speak Greek we can't moderate the
Greek forum or decide who would make a good moderator.

Ok, if nobody else comes forward and you have no objection, I could moderate the Greek forum, although, to tell you the truth, I'm against dividing forums per language. Doing so would prohibit users that don't speak other languages to provide help to other forums. Speaking for myself, I'd rather ask for help in English than in Greek.

Not everyone speaks English and we don't want to exclude them from the
community.

Let me just add that the forums are actually by country, not language per-se
and they don't stop other people from offering advice in English. There are
often a lot of country-specific issues that often cause confusion on the
mailing lists or in IRC. e.g. US users offering advice to UK users on ATSC when
the UK uses DVB instead.

The current Portuguese translation for "users" is the one used in pt-br, not
in pt-pt. But is it worth having two "pt"s?

I would use

'FLAG_EXPLAIN' => 'Escolha a sua bandeira nacional',
'TOP_FLAG_TITLE' => '5 Primeiras Bandeiras Nacionais',
'FLAG_USER' => '%s Utilizador',
'FLAG_USERS' => '%s Utilizadores',
));

In short , using "Utilizador" instead of "Usuário" and replacing "5 Melhores"
that means "5 best" with the "5 primeiras", "5 first", as in Spanish.

I will consider the invitation to volunteer. The problem is universal...

Hi Gilles!

I already submitted a translation to Stuart by IRC, it is slightly
different from yours...

I also offered my help to Stuart to moderate (even for the French
section since I obviously speak it as well ;-) ) so if he accepts we
could cover a better period of the day since we are in very different
timezones...

Thanks for that. I learnt Brazilian Portuguese hence the error.

Stuart and JP Moitinho,

as the translations are by country and not by language, I see this very
simple to make a pt-br and a pt-pt translations, aside they are very close,
they have significant differences (like en-us and en-uk, ok maybe a little
bit more different :) ), just like "usuário" (pt-br) and "utilizador"
(pt-pt). So, lets keep they separeted (however we can share content between
they both).

A long time dormant, I now come back to mythtv translation, in brazilian
portuguese... (you can make a moderator for pt-br...)

OK. Great.

Stuart please note that "mais escolhidas" (most chosen) is a better choice for
pt-pt. I was so concerned with avoiding the idea of the "best flags", that I
missed the obvious.

I would even suggest it for Spanish, where I got my inspiration for "5 first".
