No, that is not the case for all users.

The +1 streams are an option to generate smaller recording files and
conserve HDD space.

The video quality for some recordings is really not important.

They are also a second chance to catch something that the start might
have initially missed recording.

I sometimes choose the +1 to spread the recordings out so not too many
recordings are happening at the same time.Although I don't know how
valid this concern is.

Depends how slow your disk IO is I guess. One thing I found on my oldish system is simultaneous recording starts could crash the back end so I try to stagger start times.

We use +1 all the time, both for live TV and recorded.
