Version 28.0
I see MythTV is now advanced to 0.28 a few weeks ago. On my play system I
installed to check it all out and see how the new web enabled frontend
looked.

Disappointingly they still have not moved from upstart to systemd. I wrote
a little script to start with systemd (using systemctl commands) on Ubuntu
15.10 but the new 16.04 is a horrible experience so far. While a lot of it
is functional there are many details missing and I'm hoping for MythTV that
16.04 LTS improves soon.

Anyways, thought I would ask if anyone else has tried to get 0.28
operational on 16.04 and what your initial impressions are.

In other news, my brand new debian jessie install now has sysvinit ,
instead of systemd. Note - does need a reboot.
http://without-systemd.org/wiki/index.php/How_to_remove_systemd_from_a_Debian_jessie/sid_installation

Systemd has a long way to go before is any use. And that does not mean
even more bloat.

Back on topic - systemd would be a component of your distro, not of
mythtv. They're at separate levels and shouldn't be tied to each other.

My experience so far

I've just upgraded my server to Mythbuntu 16.04 a couple of days ago
(from 15.04)
I haven't checked to see if mythtv is using a different systemd script
to what I had on 15.04.

Upgrading from 15.04 to 15.10 required removing mythtv and zoneminder
which installed again with no configuration required after the 16.04
upgrade.

One thing that has been fixed is that NFS now starts up with systemd on
my PC, I think in 15.04 there was a timing issue or something which
stopped it starting on boot every time.

I had to make a couple of minor changes to apache configuration files
for my https to work again
 * changing VirtualHost port 443 in /etc/apache2/sites-enabled/000-
default.conf
 * changing /var/www in several files to /var/www/html

The main problem I've had so far is that network manager is now more
fu*#king pervasive.  It's never worked well for me with a static ip
address, primarily screwing up DNS resolution.  Now if you manually
configure network interfaces via /etc/network/interfaces, network
reliant gnome apps do not work (it stopped my Evolution mail client).
Setting up the network with network manager produced some flakey
results and I suspect that after a reboot it will play up again.
Probably time to set fixed dhcp addresses for my server in my routers.

On a real big plus, I can now have sound out of both my HDMI output
(Nvidia GT220) and analog output at the same time.  Haven't upgraded my
lounge client yet but am hoping for the same audio plus, it's running
14.04 so I think that'll be a single step upgrade.  I'm suspecting
there may be problems on that machines my HDMI CEC setup but am hoping
mythtv's cec control is more integrated and I can get rid of my custom
libcec-daemon

Boot time is faster.

Video using the new Web FrontEnd doesn't play (Chrome or Firefox) with
an error 'Your browser does not support adaptive streaming with HTML 5
Video, you will need to  install JW Player™  to use this HLS test page'
which I haven't investigated yet.

I think there's an extra performance level in the nvida settings.

Just looked at cpu usage as PC seemed to be running a bit sluggish and
noticed that there's two busy mythtranscode jobs running and I thought
I previously had none setup to ever run.

Regards
Mark

Is 0.28 available for Mythbuntu 12.04 or does the OS need to be upgraded?
I don't see the option in myth control center.

Cheers

I briefly saw it in myth control but it disappear after a refresh.

Time for an OS upgrade.

Cheers

Re: Version 28.0 [ In reply to ]
Running on 14.04 I did an upgrade of myth to 0.28 by refreshing the repos
in control center and then it was available in the drop down. Then an
normal upgrade on the current version and myth seemed to update fine. I
then created heaps of work for myself by trying to goto 16.04LTS.

I had to change the source location to Canterbury to even get the option of
a distro upgrade.

After the upgrade to 16.04LTS the things that stopped working were:
Mythtv: mysql only binds to the loopback, had to change myth back to using
127.0.0.1
LIRC: the physical device for my IR module in my Hauppauge changed so I
had to update etc/lirc/hardware.conf
X: xorg.conf was deemed no longer necessary so I had to put it back to use
my fixed EDID
NTP: not synchronising
Mythshutdown/Wakeup: not sure if this is working correctly yet
SSH: removed it and reinstalled via the MCC
Mythweb: not working some php error, I saw somewhere about the install
order is incorrect so I have to reinstall some packages

Cheers,
Mark

I believe there is no upgrade path from 14.04 LTS to 16.04 LTS yet.
That does not happen until 16.04.1 LTS is released, at which point it
is to be hoped that these problems you have encountered will have been
resolved.

Was that an on-line upgrade?
I intend to download the iso for 16.04 and do a fresh install?
