HVR2200 dead?
Hi folks,

Looks like my HVR2200 has died. I get "saa7164_downloadimage() image
corrupt" in syslog:

[ 15.808152] saa7164 driver loaded
[ 15.839286] saa7164 0000:05:00.0: PCI INT A -> Link[AE4A] -> GSI 16

[ 16.368153] saa7164_downloadfirmware() Version = 0x51cc1
[ 20.440022] saa7164_downloadimage() image corrupt

There have been no kernel updates or firmware changes on my system for a
while so I think it's a hardware fault on the HVR2200. The card is about
5 years old. I have two questions:

1) Anything I can try to get the card going?
2) Anyone know of an NZ (or other) source for an HVR2200?

David

Re: HVR2200 dead? [ In reply to ]
I had a look and I can't find the HVR-2200 at the moment but I have a
working last time I plugged it in (Years ago)

Silverstone LC16 Case (The One with the LCD on the front)
ASUS M2MPV-VM Motherboard with SPDIF/Coax Output
4 GIG RAM
HVR-4400 (DVB-T,DVB-S,DVB-S2)
CD Drive
Etc

All I will do it remove the HDD from it.

If anyone is interested in it.. someone can take it off my hands as I have
no use for it these days. It is pretty dusty at the moment.

That links to one supplier and he lists it as "retired".

I would buy a HD homerun, without question.

Yeah, but then I'm stuck with using the interweb for the EPG whereas
now I can pull it from the DVB broadcast.

Ooops - that was crap of me, sorry (that'll teach me to not follow
through the link to nicegear!).

Plenty of HVR-2200's on the 'bay. Quite pricey (about $200), but
there's a cheapish looking one in Germany if you're quick.... :)

I had a failing HVR2200 a few months back - mine would crash out with i2c
errors (some sort of internal comms) and would require a complete
powerdown/up cycle to get it back for a few more days.

Since I had other concerns with my 6 year old server box, I moved on to a
TBS6281 for DVB-T and a TBS6982 for DVB-S (replacing a couple of SkyStar
cards) with the HVR2200 doing analog capture as a temporary measure until
I could get the STB output sorted.

The HVR2200 has not failed in over 3 months - dodgy PSU?, motherboard on
the way out? who knows. Just know it hadn't failed after all!!

I got a new one about a month ago but it was from an old stock auction and it was only like $40 or so. I have an old HVR2200 that is still working fine in my main myth box and this new one I got is a newer revision one that required a slightly different firmware setup in linux. Also got a HVR4400 at the same auction which I thought wasn't going to be fully usable in linux except for DVB-S2 support. But patching the kernel with the latest linux media seems to support it mostly now and it supports DVB-T and DVB-S/S2 but no Analog, FM or IR receiver support. Haven't tested yet to see if they are independent and can be used for DVB-T and DVB-S at the same time yet though. Another interesting thing about this 4400 card is it is identical to the HVR5500 card in hardware and there is a custom patch you could apply to support DVB-C which is the only difference in these cards. No DVB-C In NZ that I'm aware of though.

Thanks for the info. I have been pondering the HVR4400 as a replacement
for the dead 2200.
