DSMCC testing and sample request
To those who have access to DSMCC/MHEG streams,

Does it work in MythTV as a video instead of a recording?  If so, how
would one go about testing it?  Additionally, I would like a sample with
those streams so I can test it myself.

Thanks,

Scott Theisen

In New Zealand MHEG5 is used to send the official EPG data for our
DVB-T free-to-air broadcasts. Is that of interest? We use tools like
mhegepgsnoop or EPG collector to capture the data. It is also
supported by tvheadend, and it is possible to download the tvheadend
EPG data for use externally. You can get the MHEG5 data from a
recording of a multiplex if all the streams are recorded. That is
currently how it is done here by people using mhegepgsnoop with HDHR
tuners as mhegepgsnoop does not (yet) support HDHRs and can not tune
them or receive from them. You need to record about a minute of the
full multiplex to ensure you have all the carousel data within the
recording.

I should be able to provide a full multiplex recording on my web
server if that would help. Our DVB-T multiplexes seem to be
transmitting at 25-26 Mbits/s, so the file will be reasonably large.

mheg is shipped as additional private streams in addition to the audio
and video streams in a recording.

They include everything from a basic GUI (press red button for <x>) to
alternative channels for sports events (think tennis, you can switch
between different courts)

I'm not quite sure that is exactly what I am looking for, but I could
give it a try.

But does it work the same if the recording is copied into the Videos folder?

Thanks,

Yes it works in the video directory.

Here is a sample I used to test MHEG back in 2017. It is audio only, but
press F2 and you see the MHEG menus. Note you have to first enable
interactive TV in the frontend settings, under playback OSD

It depends on if the data is all in the carousel or not and you recorded
the extra data streams as well as the video and audio. Mostly it is used
for simple things like the weather and news pages for example which will
work OK. Some times they require data usually other video streams which
are not present in the carousel but are simply other hidden video/audio
streams, which can be on other multiplexes, then it's very likely they
wont work as expected if you copy the video to Videos because those
streams will be missing.

I tested the two mheg samples on two systems running builds of master.

One has v33-Pre-509-g7ea05dd532: the mheg screens can be seen by
pressing F2 and navigating around, using both VAAPI and OPENGL playback
profiles.

The other has v33-Pre-733-ge0996cb499 and I cannot get the mheg to
display anything, pressing F2 or F7 has no effect, on both OPENGL and
NVDEC profiles.

Have I messed something up or is MHEG broken in the latest master?

Peter

Using either Peter's sample or John Pilkington's, I couldn't get the
menu either on ffmpeg-cleanup+harmonize (devel/ffmpeg-resync).

It sounds like it should be bisectable.

A quick test watching live TV on BBC1 with current master seems to work
OK for me.

Also if it's not obvious the interactive streams are supposed to be used
on LiveTV and most if not all commercially available DVR's don't allow
recordings to show the interactive stuff it is only because MythTV can
optionally record all streams associated with a particular channel that
recordings can show the interactive stuff which was current at the time
of the recording.

Testing on master with my two samples also worked fine.

Hi Stephen,

I'm currently adding some additional test cases for mpeg table
decoding. Do you care if I extract a couple of tables from this stream
and use them in tests?

Thanks.

That is fine - it is just recorded FTA TV.

Since late 2020 I have been getting occasional 20-second hangups on
moving from playback to the cutlist editor, mostly but not exclusively
during DVB radio playback. Issue #344. I don't think anyone else has
reproduced this, the logs didn't help, and I developed editing
strategies that seemed to make it less likely.

Usually I have had 'Interactive TV' disabled. I don't remember why, but
I had the impression that doing so reduced the likelihood of some other
problem/s.

During this trial I have re-enabled it, and the mysterious hangups seem
to have gone away, in both fixes/32 and devel/ffmpeg-resync. The
display gives hints about cutpoint location too. :-)
