New improved snow falling effect added to the MythCenterXMAS theme for master users
The MythCenterXMAS theme has been updated to make use of the new
procedural MythUI widget that can run OpenGL shader programs to improve
the snow effect so it has a smooth scrolling appearance rather than the
rather jerky one the animated gif image shows.

If you want to see the new effect you need a MythTV master build from
today that has https://github.com/MythTV/mythtv/commit/946b344279 and
you need the updated MythCenterXMAS theme version 1.15 that has been
updated to take advantage of the new procedural texture support.

Unfortunately since the procedural texture support is still experimental
it is unlikely to be backported to fixes/31 but you can still see the
old animated gif version :)

To make it even more realistic there could be some randomization of the
distances between the snowflakes.
I do not know how difficult it is but some variation in the shapes would
also be great.

What I also like, and that is not related to Christmas, is that in the
"Watch Recordings" page the up- and down arrows do wrap around from first
to last and from last to first. This is something I greatly appreciate as
it effectively halves the number of keystrokes needed to get to a specific
recording. My vote is to update MythCenter-wide so that this feature
remains with us after Christmas.

Sorry, but my vote would be to keep Mythcenter-wide scroll action as is.

See http://www.mythtv.org/wiki/Category_talk:Themes

That includes an out-of-date link which should now go to

https://lists.archive.carbon60.com/mythtv/users/558968#558968

, a long thread (Dec 2013) about both this topic and, in part, whether
a dev's preference might be reported as a bug. :-)

The offer to setup a MythCenter-Classic theme if someone steps up to
maintain it is still available as was talked about in that thread :)

I learn a lot by observing how my elderly parents interact with MythTV
and the wrap around lists confuse the hell out of them because there is
no indication you are at the end of the list so they just keep scrolling
not understanding that they are in fact looking at episodes they have
already scrolled through. Having a hard stop at the top and bottom of
the list just makes more sense to me. I maintain my own fork and build
packages from the fork so I can change it to how I want so it's not
really a problem for me if it's changed. Maybe someone can create a poll
somewhere and the majority wins?

Perhaps it would be better to make this behavior configurable in the
frontend?

There is a bit of history here why things like this are set by the theme
and not by a setting.

Many of the early theme creators where also developers and they was
annoyed that they could spend many hours creating a theme to have a look
and feel how they wanted it to only for users and other developers
adding settings to change that behavior.  That's why many settings like
font scaling and the number of rows in the EPG where removed to keep the
themers happy.  There was also some fairly vocal developers that were
adamant that there was to many settings already so settings should be
removed not more added. Most of those developers/themers have moved on so?
