Issue with android frontend
I have downloaded the prebuilt apk located at https://dl.orangedox.com/pCBmBm"]https://dl.orangedox.com/pCBmBm and it cannot connect to the backend.

11-15 16:51:46.760 3114 3178 E mfe : Plugin caching_sha2_password could not be loaded: dlopen failed: library "/home/peter/proj/github.com/MythTV/packaging-master/android/libsinstall/lib/plugin/caching_sha2_password.so" not found

I have tried both with the same result.

mythfrontend-20210819-arm-v31.0-163-g5da2523154-dirty.apk
mythfrontend-20211003-arm-v32-Pre-2895-gdd172c0a0c.apk

Is this a known issue? I searched the web and have not found anything, but I have tried on several android devices and get the same error. My goal is to run directly on a sony android TV and retire my pc/frontend.

Thanks,

Dennis

Is something different needed for an android frontend?

I have several frontends and all can connect without issue.

searching "bind-address" in /etc/mysql of the backend results in the following:

============= ./mysql.conf.d/mysqld.cnf =================
bind-address = 0.0.0.0
mysqlx-bind-address = 0.0.0.0

============= ./conf.d/mythtv.cnf =================
#bind-address=::

It looks like you have a problem with the mysql authentication method.

Before creating your mythtv users set this is mysql.cnf:

default_authentication_plugin=mysql_native_password

Alternatively if you have already created your user run this:

select * from mysql.user;

Find the host id and user name of your mythtv user

If it shows plugin as caching_sha2_password, run the below under root.
That should change the plugin to mysql_native_password.

ALTER USER 'mythtv'@'192.168.0.%' IDENTIFIED WITH mysql_native_password
by 'password';

Substitute your user name for mythtv, the correct host id, and your
password.

Is this a known issue? I searched the web and have not found anything, but I have tried on several android devices and get the same error. My goal is to run directly on a sony android TV and retire my pc/frontend.

Is something different needed for an android frontend?

I have several frontends and all can connect without issue.

searching "bind-address" in /etc/mysql of the backend results in the following:

============= ./mysql.conf.d/mysqld.cnf =================
bind-address = 0.0.0.0
mysqlx-bind-address = 0.0.0.0

============= ./conf.d/mythtv.cnf =================
#bind-address=::

looks ok, all my androids connect. and all prior versions androids have also. i'm arch linux and mariadb. check with peter bennett. on android i am using shield, but have also used mibox.

It looks like you have a problem with the mysql authentication method.

Before creating your mythtv users set this is mysql.cnf:

default_authentication_plugin=mysql_native_password

Alternatively if you have already created your user run this:

select * from mysql.user;

Find the host id and user name of your mythtv user

If it shows plugin as caching_sha2_password, run the below under root. That should change the plugin to mysql_native_password.

ALTER USER 'mythtv'@'192.168.0.%' IDENTIFIED WITH mysql_native_password by 'password';

Substitute your user name for mythtv, the correct host id, and your password.

Peter

Many thanks! I have myth-frontend running directly on a Hisense 4k smart TV.

It took me a bit to figure out the correct video and audio settings, but working real nice now. Video quality is great and it is very responsive.

Looks like I can finally retire my pc based frontend.
