Problems with the cutlist editor and DVB-T radio recordings
For the past week or so, running master, I've had problems here - mainly
in establishing an endpoint. Sometimes it segfaults, often it becomes
unresponsive while continuously reporting decoding errors. It looks as
if the main trouble may be here, but it's difficult to correlate what's
in the log with what I was doing to try to continue...

It may be possible to avoid this by stepping forward to near the end and
then 'Menu' and 'Cut to end.' Skipping directly to the end brings trouble.

Mark: Thanks for 4bd6276, which seems to have fixed most of this. I'm
still getting a screenful of info messages on playing to the final
endpoint, but they don't appear to cause problems.

An update: I'm still having problems, with the cutlist editor, and not
only with radio recordings. It's still not clear when a keystroke will
give the unexpected result, but the main problem now is a 20-second
period of unresponsiveness on trying to switch, within the editor, from
play to edit mode.

On entry to the editor there is a 1-frame flash from cache before
playback starts. IIRC that's also fairly new.

This is using a lightly customised theme, but the official version is
much the same.

I've just played a little with latest master and I'm not seeing any
obvious problems - though I'm not sure what you mean by 'switch,
within the editor, from play to edit mode'. Can you clarify?

Again, I'm not seeing any problems but I'm also not sure what '1-frame
flash from cache' is describing?

Hi Mark: I run into the problem quite often when using the editor but
it has been hard to reproduce it reliably. This seems to do it.

Radio recording with cutpoints esablished near the start and end.
Start playback, hit > several times and < a few times, then E repeatedly
and maybe for slightly longer than would be normal in keyboard
operation. The first E enters the editor and later ones toggle playback.

By 'flash from cache' I just meant that playback usually starts with
very quick display of some previously displayed frame. Perhaps it could
be from the deinterlacer. It's no problem but suggests, like the gently
pulsating cursor, that something isn't quite right. This is, of course,
all on an old machine without advanced video hardware. I don't use it
for 1080 or h264 content.

Thanks,

John

After sending that I turned off the monitor. This morning it was still
showing the editor screen with the furry AOG display. On resuming I got
the logging below. I believe that I'm now using the standard
MythCenter-wide theme. Could the 'missing buttonlist state' have
anything to do with this?

Re: Problems with the cutlist editor and DVB-T radio recordings [ In reply to ]
Hi Mark: At today's commit e7ec7f7 (and I suppose your preceding one)
the start of playback is now much cleaner. Thanks for that.

But the 20-second state of unresponsiveness can still be provoked. I'm
using a windowed display, and that window goes blank during this. The
mouse still moves but vanishes inside it; after the 20 seconds it
reappears, together with the edit bar and its AOG fur. (I tried Steppes
yesterday and the fur was absent anyway. TBH I find it pretty but not
much help in actually choosing a cutpoint.)

HTH, and thanks again,

John P

John

I still can't reproduce this. I'm not sure it will help but can you
grab a verbose log to see if it hints at anything.

Probably something like 'mythfrontend -v playback,gui --loglevel=debug'

Regards
Mark
