Regarding internationalization, how does gettext know which language it is
supposed to return in the following example.

# Code ref works too...
@{$r -> messages} = (\&ecos::I18L::translate::gettext) ;

# and gettext is defined as
sub gettext
{
my ($key) = @_ ;

return "translated text" ;
}
