TV output on Hauppauge PVR 350 stops working after upgrade
Package: xserver-xorg-video-ivtv

Version: 1.0.1-1
Severity: normal

I upgraded a Knoppmyth R5 system using apt-get update ; apt-get
dist-upgrade to Debian stable, and the TV output via the PVR-350's composite out
stopped working. I spent a while making sure the right kernel
modules were being loaded and checking the xorg.conf.

X11 gets launched from /etc/inittab with this line:
c7:2345:respawn:/usr/bin/openvt -fwc 6 -- /bin/su - mythtv -c /usr/bin/startx >& /dev/null

The X11 server seems to be starting up fine, but nothing ultimately
shows up on my television. The TV acts like it's not seeing a signal at all
on the composite video in. This hardware worked with the previous version.

Oddly enough, I can connect to the X11 server from another machine via
LAN using xvnc4viewer, and that looks just fine.

Tom,

I recently upgraded on Centos 5.4 and am experiencing the same issues
that you are. The driver and fb load completely fine, but the output
is never displayed on the TV screen. I am able to vnc into the screen0
and see the mythtv application running, but nothing shows up on the
TV.

Tom,

I recently upgraded on Centos 5.4 and am experiencing the same issues
that you are. The driver and fb load completely fine, but the output
is never displayed on the TV screen. I am able to vnc into the screen0
and see the mythtv application running, but nothing shows up on the
TV.

Re: TV output on Hauppauge PVR 350 stops working after upgrade [ In reply to ]
These parameters are left over from the initial installation

root@mythtv:~# cat /etc/mythtv/modules/ivtv
alias char-major-81 videodev
alias char-major-61 lirc_i2c
#options ivtv debug=1
#options tuner type=2
options msp3400 once=1
options ivtvfb
# options ivtv enc_yuv_buffers=4 enc_mpg_buffers=16 enc_vbi_buffers=4
enc_pcm_buffers=4
install ivtv /sbin/modprobe tuner; /sbin/modprobe msp3400; /sbin/modprobe
saa7115; /sbin/modprobe --ignore-install ivtv; /sbin/modprobe ivtvfb;
/sbin/modprobe lirc_i2c
remove ivtv /sbin/modprobe -r --ignore-remove ivtv && /sbin/modprobe -r
saa7115 && /sbin/modprobe -r msp3400 && /sbin/modprobe -r tuner &&
/sbin/modprobe -r ivt vfb && /sbin/modprobe -r lirc_i2c

I tried setting debug=3 for ivtvfb, and it provided additional output (see
attached). It's basically "grep ivtvfb /var/log/syslog".
