Having spent my life on the sea, mostly alone, as a boy growing up in the small town of Manchester-by-the-Sea, the natural ability to meditate and connect with the moment began!
With only the sounds of waves lapping on my boat’s hull in the harbor or crashing intensely on the Islands and open ocean, centeredness and magic seemed to enter my daily life!
- I made a decision. I walked away!
Life can be simple, as simple as we make it.
Or we can complicate things and remain to do something that no longer serves our passions, joy, or inspirations as it did before!
I thought adventure second to none, accomplished!
Little did I know, but the best was yet to come!
- I needed an exit plan!
- I began to ask myself, how will I leave this fantastic job traveling around the world and continue that while making a good income, excitingly?
Hands out, palms up as I looked down in exclamation, I thought! That’s it!
- I could fill my hands with gemstones! Buy at the remote gem mines and sell in the cities of the USA, Europe, and Canada! I proceeded on my mission with a definitive purpose to Bangkok, Thailand.
- I moved my home base to Bangkok, Thailand, where I studied gemology and learned about gemstones for six months; then, as a Gemologist started buying and selling gemstones! The plan did not work out! 1989 was not a year to create a new luxury business, and it failed to the upside!
- That first year was a huge learning curve!
- I did the next best thing, remembering 1985; I decided to put gemstones in Jewelry! Now I could be creative where gems alone were beauty loaded with value but lacked the element of creativity. Jewelry design with precious stones together; a Grand Slam!
- I started selling sterling silver jewelry. Instead of carrying pockets full of gems, I was now carrying suitcases full of sterling silver Jewelry onto airplanes crossing the Pacific in 12 hours rather than ten days.
Now invested in precious metals, gemstones, and currency exchange to my advantage, I was off on my new adventure! I traded Jewelry for about 4 ½ years, then started making my designs.
- I would travel back to Thailand, make more Jewelry, then back to the US, rent a car, and make my sales trips around the Florida Keys and southern Florida. When it got too warm, I headed north to Ocean City MD, Stone Harbor NJ, Newport RI, and Cape Cod.
- I met a lovely Thai lady who is now my wife, who remained in Thailand watching our team while I was selling. Eventually, she came to the USA with me after we got our team trained.
