Preparing for video card upgrade.
Hey, I am getting ready to retire the GTX 980 Ti in this computer.
(replace with Titan RTX which is due to be replaced with a 4090....)

The thing is my /X11 directory looks like:

atg@tortoise /etc/X11 $ ls -l
total 52
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 1192 Nov 16 19:03 chooser.sh
drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 4096 Sep 13 18:25 mwm
drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 4096 Nov 16 19:17 Sessions
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root   16 Nov 16 18:49 startDM.sh -> /usr/bin/startDM
drwxr-xr-x 4 root root 4096 Nov 16 19:03 xinit
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 2862 Apr 24  2018 xorg.conf
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 2805 Oct  3  2017 xorg.conf.backup
drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 4096 Mar  7  2020 xorg.conf.d
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 2490 Oct 21  2010 xorg.conf.good
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 2446 May 31  2010 xorg.conf.new
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 2815 Feb  3  2015 xorg.conf.nvidia_last
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 1853 Feb 11  2015 xorg.conf.nvidia-xconfig-original
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 2815 Jan 21  2015 xorg.conf.original-0
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root   13 Dec  4  2016 XvMCConfig
atg@tortoise /etc/X11 $

So I literally have not touched this crap since 2015... Ideally the new card will just boot up but
then I am using DVI for one of my monitors here and will need to find an adaptor in my junk pile
before doing this... (currently only using one such adaptor...)
