Kernel 2.6 on Alpha XL 366 (xlt)
Hi everyone,

I haven't been following the list as much lately (finishing my
bachelor's degree soon), but I was able to compile the 2.6.12-rc2 kernel
(vanilla-sources). It runs fine (as far as I can tell). And the best
thing is that I compiled it with the "Alcor/XLT" system type (not
generic like I had to do with 2.4.28! There's a new option just under
System Type to tell the kernel that I have an ev56 CPU, maybe that's
what made the difference...

One thing that's weird is that emerge put the kernel in
/usr/src/linux-2.6.11-rc2 (not 2.6.12-rc2 as it should have). I'm sure
it's 2.6.12-rc2 because of a) uname -a says so, b) the dir it created in
/lin/modules is 2.6.12-rc2, c) at the logon screen it also says
2.6.12-rc2. So is there any danger in moving it to
/usr/src/linux-2.6.12-rc2? Will emerge find it again if I ever want to
unmerge it? (I'm, guessing no, but is that so bad?)

Thanks in advance,

J-S

1. Report this bug; something may be wrong with the ebuild.
2. I'd symlink it personally. If you move the directory emerge won't
be able to unmerge those sources which I agree isn't really a big deal.
However, the symlink isn't a big deal either IMHO and it keeps breakage
to a minimum ;)

Its a bit strange does the Makefile have 2.6.12-rc2 in it?

Hi Ben,

The 4 first lines of the Makefile are :

VERSION = 2
PATCHLEVEL = 6
SUBLEVEL = 12
EXTRAVERSION =-rc2

So... As Alec suggested, I'll submit it as a bug and I symlinked it to
the right version number... Good suggestion, thanks.
