linux headers
I was about to run an emerge -ua system . I noticed
that it wants to upgrade linux-headers to 2.6.8.1-r2
from the current (on my system) 2.4.23 . I am still
running a 2.4 kernel (a topic for another thread).
Will things break if I upgrade the linux-headers
package?

sorry if that sounds like a dumb newbie question and
not very alpha specific....

Re: linux headers [ In reply to ]
I've just masked 2.6 headers in all profiles but the default 2005.0
profile. This way you wont end up with a 2.4 kernel + 2.6 headers which
is known to cause segfaults.

If you decide to use a 2.6 kernel and would like to use 2.6 headers as
well you can either upgrade to the 2005.0 profile or use
/etc/portage/package.unmask to unmask 2.6 headers.

Re: linux headers [ In reply to ]
Thanks, Bryan.

Yes, my profile is pointing at 2004.3 currently. I'll
sync again tonight.
