Analyzing the tables of davical, I came across calendar_item

What is the purpose of this table and when is it used?

When I compare it to to table caldav_data, field caldav_data, I
personally get the impression that calendar_item contains "nearly" the
same data.? Hence my question.

If anybody can provide me any insides, I'd appreciate.
